Software wise, this thing DOES work with Mac. But in a MacPro... not so much. The front of the tray with the logos is a smidgen too wide to fit through my MacPro doors. I've already returned one DVD drive from another company which wasn't compatible at all. This at least is recognized by the software... so I did something I don't recommend, I snapped off the front of the tray. I sure hope I didn't break anything inside the burner as trying to snap the front off meant the whole plastic tray was bending around.
But I tested a CD burn in iTunes and played the CD using the burner. All works. It's a bit loud when spinning the blank disc but no louder than the stock burner that came with the MacPro.
Haven't tried burning and playing a DVD or playing a store bought DVD. I'll do that as soon as I can.
