Product Description
Spyderco Caly 3 Carb Fiber Handle Folding Knife , Police Stainless Steel Handle Serrated , Cold Steel Ti Lite Knife , Native Lightweight Comboedge , Military Model G 10 Handle , Kershaw Leek Knife , Multi Tool Super Tool 300 , Cold Steel Rajah Ii Grivory Handle , Spyderco Tasman Salt Rust Free Serrated Edge Knife , American Tomahawk Vtac Lagana , As the name implies, the Caly3 is the newest iteration of the Calypso2 and Calypso1 knives. Like comparing a classic Corvette to a modern Corvette, the Caly3 is an offshoot of the original Calypsos--a testament to the knives' durability and long-lasting appeal--but with improved functionality and design. The Caly3 features a high-end, laminated ZDP-189 steel blade made using 3 percent carbon, making it harder and higher on the Rockwell scale while preserving the sharpness. The blade is versatile and exact, with a PlainEdge that's ground flat for precise cutting. The buffed carbon-fiber handle, meanwhile, is shaped so that the index finger sits on the underside and the thumb naturally above the jimped slip-resistant spine. As a result, the knife feels like part of the hand, with a controlled grip and no forward or backward slide while cutting. Other features include an ambidextrous deep-pocket-carry tip-up wire clip and a mid-positioned back lock.

This review is from: Spyderco Caly 3 Carbon Fiber Handle Folding Knife (Sports)
Like most things that I buy, I put a lot of research in to it before I pull the trigger. This knife was no exception. I read reviews, watched videos, weighed pros and cons of various alternatives and finally settled on this. And let me say that I LOVE this knife! It is my first Spyderco, and will definitely not be my last!
I got this knife with every day carry in mind, and it is perfect for that task. It's relatively lightweight for its size, and has a very convenient wire pocket clip that is inconspicuous and positions the knife deep in the pocket while still being very accessible. The carbon fiber handle is stunning, however some may not like that it has a smooth surface that doesn't provide much grip. I personally like this feature as it makes taking the knife in and out of my pocket easier (it all depends on your philosophy of use or POU as nutnfancy would say!). The blade on this knife is razor sharp out of the box. I've owned several Kershaws (including a new S30v Blur, which I also like quite a bit) and a couple Buck knives and they can't hold a candle to how sharp this thing is out of the box!
If you're considering this knife versus the CF Sage, get this one. The back lock mechanism is much more convenient. If you're considering this knife at all, get it. You won't regret it.
