This review is from: Brother Computerized Sewing Machine SQ9000 w/ Alphabet
I use this machine primarily for piecing quilts, paper piecing and applique and it does a good job. Very lightweight and easy to move with one hand, so it's perfect for classes. I initially had difficulty with the tension, but quickly learned that I had to pull the thread completely out and rethread it for the new tension setting to kick in (a hint from my sister). The things I love about it is that it's so simple to use, the light weight, the drop in bobbin, it's so simple to change just drop it in and pull the thread through the guides, I love the snap on feet, very easy and quick to change and inexpensive to buy, and the neat clean stitches. I have had this machine for about a year and there are some things I don't like about it: the extension table legs tend to fold up while in use and I have to pull them back out, the light is not bright enough, the default stitch setting has broken several needles. If I have a regular straight stitch or 1/4 inch foot on it, when I turn it on, I sometimes forget to change the stitch setting and it will hit the foot and break the needle. There are 80 stitches, the alphabet can be useful, but there is only one font and no choice in sizes. I couldn't get satisfactory results for free motion quilting, so I use another machine for that. It will do thick seams if you go very slowly, I turn the wheel by hand sometimes to get through the very thick seams. I keep this machine in my little work space and use it for piecing and it works well for that. I'm satisfied with it considering the low price.
